Terms of Service

Effective November 6, 2026

These terms govern your use of etoku (etoku.app), which is run by Will Morrison in Colorado, United States. By creating an account or using etoku, you agree to these terms and the Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use etoku.

Who can use etoku

You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age for digital consent where you live. If you're under 18, you need permission from a parent or guardian.

Your account

You sign in with links sent to your email address, so keep access to that inbox secure. An account is for one person. You're responsible for activity on your account.

The service

etoku is a tool for learning Japanese. It is under active development: features will change, and some may be added or removed. etoku is free to use today. If paid plans are introduced, their price and terms will be shown before you're asked to pay, and nothing will be charged without your agreement.

Acceptable use

Don't:

• break the law or anyone's rights using etoku;
• access etoku through automated means, scrape it, or download its sentences, audio or images in bulk;
• copy, redistribute or sell content from etoku;
• try to gain access to accounts or systems that aren't yours, or interfere with etoku's operation;
• send reports that are abusive or unlawful.

Content from Japanese works

Example sentences, audio clips and images come from published works, and their rights belong to their owners. etoku shows short excerpts only so learners can study the language, and claims no ownership of them. You may use them for your own study, not for any other purpose.

If you own rights in a work and object to how it appears on etoku, write to support@etoku.app with the work, where it appears, and how to reach you. etoku will review the request and remove material where appropriate.

etoku's software, design, explanations and selection of material belong to Will Morrison.

Feedback

Reports and suggestions you send may be used to improve etoku, without any obligation to you.

No guarantee of results

Progress figures, such as the share of a work's words you know, are estimates. etoku doesn't promise that you will understand any work, pass any test or reach any level.

Ending your use

You can stop using etoku and delete your account at any time from Settings. etoku may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or others at risk. etoku may also stop offering the service, with notice where practical.

Disclaimer

etoku is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Will Morrison is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or opportunities, arising from your use of etoku. Total liability for any claim relating to etoku is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for etoku in the 12 months before the claim, or US$50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

Indemnity

If your misuse of etoku or breach of these terms leads to a claim against Will Morrison, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of that claim, to the extent the law allows.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado and the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Colorado, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them elsewhere.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, the date at the top changes. For material changes, etoku will email you before they take effect. Continuing to use etoku after that means you accept the new terms.
